Touching the Earth!
A couple years back when I turned 40, I consciously focused on enhancing my personal happiness through expanding my experiences. I knew that now was the time to do the things that I always I thought I would or should do. One of my goals was to “touch the earth” through interacting with animals and as I’ve always had a fondness for sheep, I thought it was a great place to start. I was specifically interested in working with ewes through the lambing process. I had read somewhere that the bond between a ewe and her new lambs was one of the strongest in nature and I wanted to witness firsthand the development of this bond.

In talking to my boss, I shared my interest to find a local sheep farm to inquire about lambing, and lo and behold, she was acquainted with a family in town who raised Rambouillet Sheep. So, on a January afternoon I emailed Teresa trying to explain my “off the wall” desire to witness the birth of a lamb and asked if I could visit her farm the next time her ewe’s where in a delicate state. My timing was impeccable; lambing season had just begun!
And so evolved the story of how I made friends with a great Shepherdess and was invited to be a part of the wonderful things which happen at Ewe Bet Ranch every lambing season.
During my second year of lambing at Ewe Bet Ranch, I was helping on a Saturday morning when very woolly brown ewe gave birth to very woolly lambs.

Watching these two grow was especially fun.
Teresa was kind to allow me to select one of the little lambs from the 2010 season to call my own. I chose Poca Luna and although she lives on Ewe Bet Ranch and Teresa feeds her and takes care of her daily needs, I have adopted her as my very own little lamb. Now Poca Luna is a yearly and she is as beautiful as ever. She is playful and likes to make lots of friends.
